ABOUT · EST. 2001 · NORTHERN VIRGINIA

Twenty-five yearsof teaching adultswho'd never trained.

Kaizen — 改善 — is the Japanese principle of continuous improvement. Small gains, compounded daily, into something unmistakable. It's not a marketing word to us. It's the only way we know how to teach.

THE ARC · 2001 → 2026

A quarter-century, one small gain at a time.

  1. 2001

Kaizen MMA opens in Northern Virginia

A single room, a handful of students, and one conviction — that martial arts done right changes people's lives in real, measurable ways. Not in some abstract motivational way. In a way you can feel on the mat every week.

  2. THE YEARS IN BETWEEN

    Curriculum, quietly refined

The curriculum took shape through thousands of hours of teaching adults who'd never trained. What worked stayed. What didn't got thrown out. No shortcuts, no watered-down versions — just the patient work of becoming better instructors every single week.

  3. THE ROOM GREW

    From one gym to many

One gym became two. Two became more. Each location carried the same standard: qualified instruction, structured progression, and a community that actually cared about your progress. No franchise feel, no compromise.

  4. THE COACHES

World-class instruction, same standard for everyone

Our coaches have trained athletes who've competed in UFC, Bellator, and ONE Championship. Kaizen has been featured on Fox News. But the culture never shifted toward the competitive path — the room has always been a place for anyone, at any level, to train real martial arts patiently.

  5. 2026

    Six locations across Northern Virginia

Falls Church, Fairfax, Vienna, Ashburn, Purcellville, South Riding. Kids and adults. One membership, every mat. Twenty-five years in, the first principle hasn't changed: get better every day, in every way.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

Six principles, held plainly.

01

Continuous improvement

Kaizen means getting better every day. We don't chase perfection — we chase progress. Every class, every drill, every conversation is an opportunity to improve.

02

Real instruction

No shortcuts, no watered-down curriculum. Our coaches teach real martial arts with proper technique, structured progression, and honest feedback.

03

Community first

The people on the mat next to you matter. We build training partners, not just students. The community here is what keeps people coming back for years.

04

Accessible to everyone

You don't need to be fit, young, or experienced. We meet you where you are and build from there. Every class has progressions for every level.

05

Safety & respect

Training should challenge you, not injure you. We prioritize controlled practice, proper technique, and mutual respect on the mat at all times.

06

Results that matter

Better fitness, real self-defense skills, genuine confidence, and discipline that carries into every part of your life. That's what we deliver.

THE HEAD COACH

Coach Nima Mazhari — the reason the standard holds.

Coach Nima Mazhari with a Kaizen MMA champion student holding a championship belt

Coach Nima has been teaching martial arts in Northern Virginia for more than two decades. He built Kaizen from a single room in Falls Church into six locations — not by chasing hype, but by holding one line: the instruction has to be real, the standard has to hold, and the room has to actually work for everyone who walks in.

His students have competed at the highest levels of Muay Thai, MMA, BJJ, and wrestling. But the reputation he cares about is the one built every day — with the first-time adult who was nervous to walk in, with the kid learning to tie a belt, with the parent rediscovering their own strength.

“Every champion I've ever coached started the same way the new students do — confused, out of breath, and unsure they belong. The job is to stay patient long enough to prove they do.”
