Tips for Your First Class

Make your first session smooth. Here's everything you need to know before walking in.

Arrive 15 Minutes Early

Give yourself time to fill out a quick waiver, meet your coach, and get oriented. You don't want to rush into your first class stressed.

What to Wear

Athletic clothes you can move in — shorts or joggers and a t-shirt. We train barefoot for most classes, so no special shoes needed. For BJJ, a rash guard or fitted shirt works best.

What to Bring

A water bottle, a towel, and a good attitude. That's it. We have loaner gear (gloves, shin guards) for your first few classes.

Frequently Asked Questions

For beginners, we recommend 2-3 classes per week to build a solid foundation without burning out. As you progress, many students train 4-5 days a week or add a second discipline. Your coaches can help you build a schedule that matches your goals and recovery capacity.

Yes. Once you're enrolled, you can attend any class at your location that matches your level. Some advanced classes or competition-prep sessions may require coach approval, but the vast majority of our schedule is open to all active members.

No booking required for regular group classes — just show up. For private training sessions, you'll need to schedule in advance with your coach. If you're coming in for your first free trial class, we recommend calling ahead so we can pair you with the right session.

Life happens. If you're a few minutes late, come in quietly, warm up on your own, and join when ready. If you're more than 10-15 minutes late, it may be better to catch the next class so you don't miss foundational instruction. Our coaches are understanding — just don't make it a habit.

Occasionally. We may add or adjust class times based on instructor availability and member demand. Summer months sometimes see slight schedule tweaks. We always give advance notice of any changes.

Your membership is tied to your home location, but we do offer cross-training options. Talk to your location manager about visiting other Kaizen MMA gyms — most members can arrange guest passes or multi-location access.
