Teens (13-17) Train With Adults

At 13, your teen graduates out of the kids program and into our adult classes. Same coaches, same disciplines — Muay Thai, Grappling, Boxing, MMA — held to the adult standard, supervised closely, paired with the right training partners.

Ages 13 – 17 · Adult Class Track

Not a Kids Class. A Step Up.

Teens at Kaizen train alongside adult members in real classes — no cartoon belt graphics, no pizza parties, no separate beginner room. They're treated like the adults they're becoming, with coaches who pay extra attention to pairings, technique, and progression.

Why Martial Arts for Teens?

The years between 13 and 17 shape who your teen becomes. Give them the right inputs.

Confidence That's Earned, Not Given

Real confidence comes from proving to yourself that you can do hard things. Every class, every technique learned, every time they push through discomfort — your teen builds a kind of self-belief that no pep talk can replicate.

Anti-Bullying Through Capability

Kids who know they can handle themselves don't need to prove it. Martial arts gives teens the quiet confidence and awareness that makes them less of a target — and the skills to protect themselves if they ever need to.

Discipline That Transfers

The discipline built through consistent training doesn't stay on the mat. Parents consistently tell us their teens become more focused on schoolwork, more responsible at home, and better at managing their time.

Physical Fitness Without the Gym

Most teens don't want to go to a gym. Martial arts gives them an intense full-body workout that doesn't feel like exercise because they're learning skills, solving problems, and training with partners who push them.

Mental Health and Stress Relief

The teenage years are stressful. Martial arts provides a physical outlet for anxiety, frustration, and restless energy — plus the endorphin boost that comes from hard training. It's better than any app.

A Community That Matters

Your teen will train alongside people of all ages and backgrounds who share a commitment to growth and respect. These relationships — with coaches and training partners — become a positive social foundation.

Programs for Teens

At 13+, teens join adult classes in any discipline. They train with experienced adults in a supportive, structured environment.

Training with adults is actually an advantage for teens. They're surrounded by positive role models, held to a higher standard, and challenged in ways that age-segregated programs can't match. Our coaches closely monitor teen students and ensure they're always paired with appropriate training partners.

Not Just a Sport — A Life Skill

What your teen learns on the mat stays with them forever.

Martial arts teaches resilience — how to get back up when something knocks you down, literally and figuratively. It teaches focus — how to shut out distractions and commit to what's in front of you. It teaches respect — for your training partners, your coaches, and yourself.

These aren't abstract concepts. Your teen practices them every time they step on the mat. They learn to stay calm under pressure, to push through discomfort, to accept feedback, and to show up consistently even when they don't feel like it. These are the skills that define successful adults — and martial arts builds them naturally.

We've watched thousands of teenagers walk through our doors over the past 25 years. The transformation is always the same — more confident, more disciplined, more capable, and more comfortable in their own skin.

What Parents Are Saying

Hear from families with teens training at Kaizen.

My son was getting bullied at school. We tried counseling, we tried talking to teachers. Nothing worked. His BJJ coach taught him how to carry himself differently — not to fight, but to walk like someone who can't be pushed around. The bullying stopped within a month.

My teenage daughter started training to deal with anxiety. Six months later, she's more confident, sleeping better, and actually putting her phone down to go to class. The community here treats her like family.

Teen Martial Arts FAQ

At 13+, teens are welcome in all adult classes — Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, Boxing, and MMA. They train alongside experienced adults in a supportive environment. Our coaches pay close attention to younger students and pair them with partners who will challenge them safely.

Yes. Our training culture is built on respect and controlled practice. Adults in our gym understand that they're training partners, not opponents. Coaches actively manage pairings and intensity levels. Many of our adult members started as teens themselves and are great role models for younger students.

Absolutely. Most teens who join us have zero experience. Every class has progressions for beginners, and our coaches are skilled at bringing new students up to speed quickly. Within a few weeks, most teens feel comfortable and confident in class.

Many parents tell us that martial arts has been transformative for their teen's mental health. The combination of physical exertion, focused attention, and accomplishment creates a natural stress relief that screens and passive activities can't match. The community aspect also gives teens a healthy social outlet and sense of belonging.

Martial arts training demonstrates discipline, commitment, leadership, and resilience — qualities that admissions officers value. Teens who train consistently and progress through belt ranks or competition have a compelling story to tell about long-term dedication and personal growth.

Two to three times per week is a great starting point. That's enough to build skills and see real progress without interfering with school and other activities. Many of our teen members eventually train more frequently as they get hooked.
